Marnie Stern – This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That (Kill Rock Stars 2008)

Nick: I find it virtually inconcievable that anybody would listen to or enjoy this for a whole 40 mins, its kind of original, but its just scales played very fast. its not composed.

and as usual, after three numbers, I know what they do, I don’t need to hear anymore.

(track 6 – Steely)

oh they’ve slowed dow..oh not for long I guess. thats the most intersting number so far, it has levels, a change of pace etc.

do you just like when she stops playing guitar?

yeah, that I actually quite liked.

(a bit later)

is this the second side?

uh-huh, it’s nearly over.

well then the best thing I can say for it is, the second half is much better than the first, more variation.

ok all done.

well….it’s survivable.

‘This Is It….’, Marnie Stern’s second album for Kill Rock Stars, manages to amp up the pop of her first record while still leaving the cable mess of rocktopus drumming and finger tapped widdly widdly hair metal guitar untouched. It is astounding, invigorating, incredibly fun and in shops from today, go buy!
