I guess it’s not the end just yet, we only got two albums done this week as Nick was out gallivanting Tuesday and Thursday and today I’m too busy. Can’t let Groom be the last album we review, so there’ll hopefully be 2 or 3 posts next week!

The End

Oh hey.
So the blog has totally petered out, kinda sad right? But i knew this would happen. I wanted to kill it at the 12 month point, keep it neat. Nick convinced me to keep it going and, well..yeah.

But that’s not good enough! We’re proud of this – it’s probably the best Irish blog of all time ever, actually scratch that – it’s definitely the best website since the invention of the internet. So we’re coming back! But only for two weeks. For the first week things will be as they always were, ‘Classic Nick Thinks…’ if you will. But for the second week we’ll change things up a bit – Nick is gonna pick the albums he wants to review, they might be his favorites or his least or who knows? Exciting, right?

Ok, gotta go, MASSIVE thanks to anyone out there who still cares, see you on Monday!

Kurt Vile – Childish Prodigy (Matador, 2009)

Nick: Childish Prodigy? well he certainly makes childish jokes with his name!

actually I kinda like these first sounds.

but is it good?

I don’t know, strangely enough.

I’m finding it hard to decide.

it sounds like something from quite a long time ago, if you know what I mean?

where are they from?

I have no idea why this is…this might sound weird…

but I thought they might be German.

well Kurt Weill was German.

yes but I knew this didn’t have anything to do with him.

do you know what impression I get?

it’s of a…

if you make a sculpture out of a load of rubbish, a dust-pan, a broomstick, some potato peels, whatever, and then it turns out quite nice.

and this is like that, if you took apart all the elements… they’re crap alone.

all the voices going ‘bu-buuuuuuu’ and so on.

but put it altogether and you have something quite good.

ordinarily crap and conservative bits put together to make something interesting, a triumph of mixing?

Two apologies!

Firstly! Sorry there hasn’t been many posts of late. Nick and myself have had very little work to do recently. Now, you’d think with all this spare time we’d be able to review numerous albums every day but the reality is we’re not sitting in the office together much. We’ll try harder in January, promise.

Secondly! I always try to avoid plugging stuff I’m involved in here but this is kinda late notice and I haven’t seen much else about it anywhere as a result so….This Sunday, Foggy Notions presents Kurt Vile w/ Lie Ins (I drum) in Twisted Pepper, it’s an early show and costs 13.50. Come along, it’ll be fun.

oh hey!

Nick turned 71 on Saturday.

And I’m busy all week with recording so there’ll be no posts till next week.

Stay cool!

Please Excuse Us…

Ok so that January break I spoke of before is now upon us. Nick is in the hospital having some nuts & bolts tightened, nothing major but it means he’ll be away for a week at the very least. Soldier that he is he wants to keep on reviewing albums so hopefully we can get some done over the weekend, either way posts are gonna be intermittent at best.

So until our next post please allow me to leave you with this golden nugget from a review of Dexy’s Midnight Runners 1982 classic ‘Too-Rye-Ay’ that had to be aborted after 5 minutes.

Nick: His voice sounds like mick jagger’s face.

Thanks and hopefully see you soon!
